EXPANDED SOUTHEASTERN COVERAGE, DEEPER STAFF FOR LRS® SPORTS RECRUITING SERVICES

Players from Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi are now available.

Springfield, IL - November 24, 2009 – The Southeast—from Louisiana to South Carolina—is LRS Sports Recruiting Services territory.

Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi have joined the three states where LRS Sports Recruiting Services has long been strong—Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. But geographic coverage is just part of the expansion story; LRS Sports Recruiting Services has also added talent and experience to its staff.

Derrick Crudup and George Spencer have joined a skilled group led by the legendary Dwight Thomas. All three former football coaches will serve as Recruiting Specialists, and all three bring valuable insight into what makes a good football recruit for college level play.

“Who knows players better than coaches?”asks Dan McCain, Senior Manager of LRS Sports. “Coaches understand players and the talent that makes a good athlete, so it was only logical that we engage former coaches who understand players and can identify which ones have the most potential to go on to play college ball.”

LRS Sports Recruiting Services specializes in identifying and evaluating student athletes who best meet the criteria of college football programs. Services offered include detailed high school and junior college athlete data. An extensive library of game and player video is available online, and copies of videos can be requested in DVD format. The Recruiting Services staff conduct combines throughout the year to evaluate and assess player abilities and potential and provide that data, along with the video and player information, to colleges when they are building their next season’s program.

The latest expansion of coverage means that LRS Sports Recruiting Services now covers the majority of the Southeast, a region which produces a large percentage of players who go on to play professionally in the NFL.*

Dwight Thomas, LRS® Sports Recruiting Specialist, is a nationally recognized recruiting expert. Coach Thomas has operated combines and provided recruiting information to football programs throughout the US for more than 10 years. During his 30-year coaching career, he won multiple state championships, was elected Florida Coach of the Year, was inducted into the FACA Hall of Fame, and, as head coach at Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida, coached NFL career rushing leader Emmitt Smith.

Coach Thomas directs all aspects of LRS Sports recruiting services and oversees Recruiting Manager software development.

The new Recruiting Specialists all bring extensive experience to LRS Sports Recruiting Services.

After an All-American high school quarterback career at Boca Raton High in Florida, Derrick Crudup was recruited to play quarterback at the University of Florida by Mike Shanahan, who later coached the Denver Broncos to consecutive Super Bowl victories. Crudup transferred to Oklahoma to play for Barry Switzer and won four Big Eight championships along with the National Championship in 1985 with a win over Penn State in the Orange Bowl. Crudup was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 1988, once again by Shanahan. After his playing career ended in 1992, Crudup returned to his Florida roots to coach high school football at Deerfield Beach, Boca Raton, Spanish River, and Pompano Beach high schools for more than 12 years as defensive and offensive coordinator.

Crudup coached a number of Division 1 players and 10 first-round draft choices in the NFL. His son Derrick Jr. played quarterback for the University of Miami, and was a member of the 2002 National Championship team that beat Nebraska to win the Rose Bowl. The Crudups are the only father and son tandem to have won the National Championship in Division 1 College football history.

After a 36-year high school football coaching career, George Spencer retired from coaching in 2008. He had played high school football in Westminster, Maryland and went on to play college football at Gardner Webb College.

Spencer began coaching high school football in Rock Hill, South Carolina then went to Georgia in 1984 to Ware County High School. He also coached at Riverdale and Effingham High Schools. His teams were in the state playoffs every year he served as head football coach. Spencer still holds a seat on the board of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA). He’s received several achievement awards from the GACA including the Executive Director’s Award. Throughout his career, he’s coached many scholarship recipients, one who is in the NCAA Hall of Champions, and two NFL players.
