Stats:Derrick Crudup was an All-American high school quarterback at Boca Raton High in Florida. In 1983 he was recruited to play quarterback at the University of Florida, by Mike Shanahan former head coach of the Denver Broncos. Crudup transferred to Oklahoma to play for Barry Switzer and won four Big Eight championships and one National Championship in 1985 with a win over Penn State in the Orange Bowl. Crudup was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 1988, once again by Shanahan. After his playing career ended in 1992, Crudup returned to his Florida roots to coach high school football at Deerfield Beach, Boca Raton, Spanish River, and Pompano Beach high schools for more than 12 years as defensive and offensive coordinator.

Crudup coached a number of Division 1 players and 10 first-round draft choices in the NFL. His son Derrick Jr. played quarterback for the University of Miami, and was a member of the 2002 National Championship team that beat Nebraska to win the Rose Bowl. The Crudups are the only father and son tandem to have won the National Championship in Division 1 College football history.
