It was 1979.
Jimmy Carter was president of the United States, disco 'died' during a record demolition at Comiskey Park in Chicago, Sony introduced the Walkman, and snow fell on the Sahara Desert for the first time in recorded history.
It was also the year that Dick Levi, Roger Ray, and Bob Shoup founded Levi, Ray, & Shoup, Inc. (LRS) while working from a single office in Springfield, Illinois.
"Roger, Bob and I were successful independent consultants yet I felt we could be more effective as a team," says Dick Levi, President and CEO of LRS. "So we pooled our talents and formed a new company, LRS, on September 21, 1979."
Thirty-five years later, disco is still dead but LRS has thrived. LRS has grown to become a global technology company that includes several different divisions. We employ more than 600 people throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia and continue to grow year after year.
Many of our divisions came to be as what could be called an 'organic outgrowth' of our existing business lines. When new opportunities presented themselves, the LRS management team carefully considered the advantages of bringing each new business line into the fold.
Today, more than 35 years later, LRS is stronger than ever and continually growing. Our headquarters remain in Springfield where we first opened our doors—with several offices across the globe. We think we must be doing something right, because LRS was named one of the "Best Places to Work in Sangamon County" in 2014 by the Springfield Business Journal.
Finding, hiring, and retaining the best talent are the keys to our success and growth. Our senior staff have many years of experience with LRS—some more than 20 years—and most of them have come up through the ranks and grown with the company.
Our employees stay with LRS. Our turnover rate is on the low end of the industry spectrum. Opportunities for growth, a top-notch working environment, and industry-leading work attract and keep great people.
We know our great people will keep us growing for years to come.
