Innovate/MFPsecure
In a typical business environment, documents generated by applications or end users start printing as soon as they are requested. As a result, they often arrive at the printer long before the intended recipients. Sensitive documents sitting unattended on a printer are a significant security risk. They also represent a waste of paper and money.
Government regulations and privacy concerns are forcing many organizations to rethink how they create, distribute, and secure printed documents. In other companies, directives to “do more with less” are driving printer consolidation projects that seek to lower hardware and consumable costs. LRS’ new Innovate/MFPsecure™ product is designed to address these and other business initiatives while enhancing the existing output environment.
Supported Document Workflows
The Innovate/MFPsecure solution provides software-driven pull printing that supports the secure document workflows on newer Hewlett-Packard (HP) multifunction devices. Unlike a normal printing system, documents in a secure output environment are not sent to a device on the first print request. Instead, they remain safely queued on the LRS® Enterprise Output Server until an end user physically arrives at the device and authenticates his or her identity via one of three secure methods.
This new product uses HP’s Open Extensibility Platform (OXP) technology to facilitate document workflows. Supported functions are controlled through a touchscreen interface on the front of the output device. Current workflows include:
Secure Delivery via VPSX—Enables users to select one or more documents to print on the device. Once the user’s ID is verified, the document is released from the VPSX® server and printed.
Fast Secure Delivery via VPSX—Lets users immediately print all of their documents without individually selecting each from the secure VPSX queue.
Scan2Mail via VPSX—Users can input documents on the device’s flatbed scanner and send them to various email recipients. Delivery is controlled and tracked using VPSX audit facilities.
Scan2PCX—Lets end users scan hardcopy documents and automatically stores them in a specified PageCenterX® folder for viewing. See the accompanying article for additional details.

Authentication
A key element in a secure document solution is the ability to verify the requester’s identity and location before releasing the document for print or allowing a hardcopy scanner event. The Innovate/MFPsecure product currently supports three methods of user authentication:
