The White House hosted a cybersecurity summit on August 25, 2021, that addressed the “issue of the decade” according to IBM CEO Arvind Krishna. The summit gathered CEOs from top IT organizations such as Microsoft, Amazon, and IBM. Just as important, it included executives from U.S. based financial services, utilities, and insurance sectors.

All in attendance agreed that skilling workers topped the agenda to help fill the 500,000 shortfall in workers for U.S. cybersecurity jobs. See “Google, Microsoft plan to spend billions on cybersecurity after meeting with Biden” for more information.

I’m also thrilled that billions of dollars have been committed by the top IT organizations for cybersecurity training and look forward to passionately expanding our course offerings to implement these programs.

Business leaders throughout the U.S. have used the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) Cybersecurity Framework as a way to address current and future cybersecurity challenges through standards and best practices. The NIST Cybersecurity Framework is defined by federal statutes, executive orders, and policies—including developing cybersecurity standards and guidelines for federal agencies. NIST also works closely with organizations in the public and private sectors to ensure that all information can be readily leveraged to address specific issues that they face.
